EGG CHAIR & OTTOMAN
Arne Jacobsen
1958
In 1958, architect and designer Arne Jacobsen created the Egg Chair for the lobby and reception areas of the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The commission to design every element of the hotel building as well as the furniture was Jacobsen’s grand opportunity to put his theories of integrated design and architecture into practice.
This organically shaped chair has since become a symbol of Danish furniture design throughout the world and has helped define an era. Jacobsen strove to find the shell’s perfect shape and originally sculptured the shape out of clay in the garage of his own home. The Egg Chair’s unique shape guarantees a bit of privacy in otherwise public spaces with its chamber like seating area that blocks out external noise, and our Replica Egg Chair – with or without ottoman – is ideal for any setting.
With the Replica Egg Chair you can easily combine Jacobsen’s modernist design concept with any traditional furniture setting. Our Arne Jacobsen Replica Egg Chair is an inspired reproduction of Jacobsen's original, and offers impeccable accuracy to the original.
The Egg is available in a wide variety of wool upholstery as well as leather (upholsteryfeatured above), enabling you to choose which will best compliment your space. It is always combined with a star shaped swivel base in satin polished aluminium. The swivel base allows the user to turn towards or away from a communal lounge setting affording some privacy in lounging, perfect for lobby areas. The Egg Chair has also recently gained popularity as an inviting home decor design addition.
